Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Playarena Online LLC ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use skill.games and the games on it (the "Service"), and the choices you have. Playarena Online LLC is the data controller for the Service.

The short version: you do not need an account, we never ask for your email or real name, and your games, settings and statistics are stored only in your own browser. When you play with friends, our game server holds the game and the name you chose only while it is being played, and deletes them shortly after everyone leaves. The Service is funded by advertising served by Google and Yandex, and we measure visits with Google Analytics; both use cookies as described below.

Information stored on your device

To let you continue an unfinished game and to keep your record, the games save the following in your browser's local storage:

• the game in progress, so you can continue it next time;
• the difficulty level and options you chose, and your sound setting;
• your statistics: games won, lost and drawn, win rate and streaks, per game and level, and your record with friends;
• your cookie choice and your language;
• if you play with friends: a random player number made by your browser, the name you chose, and a key for each game with friends you joined, so you can return to your seat.

This information stays on your device. Only the player number, the name and the seat key are sent to us, and only when you play with friends (see below). You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for skill.games, which also resets your saved games and statistics.

Playing with friends

When you choose "Play with a friend", our game server creates a table for that game and gives you a link to share. To run the game, the server receives and keeps, while the game is being played:

• the random player number your browser made (it is not linked to your name, email or any account);
• the name you chose, which is shown to the other players at that table - you do not have to use your real name;
• a secret key for your seat (the server keeps only a scrambled form of it), so nobody else can take your seat;
• the game itself: the moves played, the cards or pieces dealt and the score.

The server deletes a table 10 minutes after everyone has left it, whether or not the game was finished. The results are sent to each player's browser, which keeps them; the server does not keep a history of games, names or results. It does not record names or player numbers in its logs.

Anyone who has the link can join the table while it has a free seat, so share it only with the people you want to play with. There is no chat on skill.games: players see each other's names and moves only.

Information collected automatically

When your browser loads a page, our servers and our network provider receive the technical information every website receives: your IP address, browser type and version, device type, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time. We use it only to deliver the Service, keep it secure, prevent abuse and fix problems. Server logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted.

The Service is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects the site from attacks and speeds up delivery. Cloudflare processes this technical information for those purposes and may set a strictly necessary security cookie. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, provided by Google, to understand how skill.games is used - which pages and games are visited, roughly from which countries and devices, and how visitors arrive - so we can improve the Service. Google Analytics receives technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit and the referring page. We do not send it your name, email or anything you type, and we do not use it to identify you.

If you choose "Accept all", Google Analytics may set cookies to recognise repeat visits. If you choose "Necessary only", or until you choose, it sets no cookies and Google receives only cookieless signals, which it uses to estimate overall usage. Google's processing of this information is governed by Google's Privacy Policy; see also how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can also block Google Analytics in any browser with Google's opt-out add-on.

Advertising

skill.games shows ads served by Google AdSense, which keeps the games free. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, to limit how often you see an ad, to measure ads, and - where you allow it - to show ads based on your interests and your visits to this and other websites.

• If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for your consent through a consent message provided by Google before ad cookies are used for personalised advertising. You can change your choice at any time from the privacy and cookie settings link that the message provides.
• If you are in a US state with a privacy law (for example California), you can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your information for targeted advertising through the message or link provided by Google on the Service.
• You can manage personalised ads from Google at Google's Ad Settings, and learn how Google uses information from sites that show its ads at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
• You can also opt out of personalised advertising by many companies at aboutads.info and, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.

Google's processing of this information is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

skill.games also shows full-screen ads from the Yandex Advertising Network, operated by YANDEX LLC. They appear when a game begins - at most occasionally, as limited by Yandex - and can be closed. Yandex uses cookies and similar technologies, and technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type and the page you are on, to choose, show and measure these ads and to limit how often you see them. Yandex's processing of this information is governed by the Yandex Privacy Policy. You can limit ad cookies through your browser's settings.

Your choice. On your first visit a message asks whether we and our partners may use cookies. If you choose "Accept all", Google (ads and analytics) and Yandex may use cookies as described above. If you choose "Necessary only", Yandex ads are not loaded at all, Google shows only non-personalised ads, and Google Analytics sets no cookies. Until you choose, no Yandex code is loaded and Google ad requests are paused. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. Saving your games and settings uses your browser's own storage and does not depend on this choice.

How we use information

We use the limited information described above to:

• provide, operate and secure the Service, including the games you play with friends;
• understand and fix technical problems;
• show advertising that keeps the Service free;
• answer you when you contact us;
• comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Legal bases (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on: the performance of the service you ask for when you play with friends (your player number, name and game, kept only while the game is played); our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving the Service (technical information and server logs); your consent for personalised advertising and non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time; and our legal obligations where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

Sharing

When you play with friends, the name you chose and your moves are shown to the other players at that table. Otherwise, we share information only with the service providers who help us run the Service (our hosting and network providers, and Google and Yandex for advertising), when the law requires it, to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or Playarena Online LLC, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply.

These providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where the law requires it, such transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights.

Because we do not keep accounts, the information we hold about you is very limited: the information on your device is in your control, games with friends are deleted from our server shortly after they end, and our server logs are deleted after a limited period. To exercise any right, email us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your request. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

skill.games is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the Service, including encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Do Not Track

The Service does not respond to Do Not Track signals. You can control advertising cookies through the choices described above.

Links to other websites

The Service may link to websites we do not operate. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the Service.
